To Go Fast, You Must Slow Down

Slow Down to Go Fast

In modern times, we tend to spend lots of time going fast. And we don’t spend so much time slowing down.

But does that get us there faster?

Here’s a martial arts story that talks about this:

A young student shows up to study with a Martial Art Master.

The student is eager to learn. He asks, “How long will it take to be really good at this?”

The Master looks him up and down and says, “10 years.”

The young student thinks that this is WAY too long. He says to the Master, “What if I work extra hard? I’ll work harder than any student you’ve ever had. I’ll work day and night to improve. Then how long will it take?”

Master looks him up and down and says, “In that case, count on 20 years.”

I pondered this for a long time. It seemed somehow correct, but I couldn’t figure out why.

Then one day, after 10 years of studying qigong, meditation, martial arts and healing work, it came to me. I thought to myself, “THAT’s how it all works!”

I share this with you for two reasons. First, be patient. You’ll get there.

Second, I’d like you to think about what the martial art story means. Leave a comment about what you think about this…
